BIO :
Toronto-based singer-songwriter, Just Prince, is known for seamlessly blending Western and Eastern sounds into a harmonious tapestry. With a captivating style that defies genre constraints, his music weaves elements of folk, rock, blues, and Hindustani classical music into a mesmerizing experience. Just Prince's evocative compositions take listeners on a sonic journey, transcending cultural boundaries and resonating with the soul. Through his innovative approach, he crafts a musical landscape that bridges worlds with the intention of humility and togetherness.

In a global landscape where South Asian representation is often confined to commercial or dance-driven narratives, Just Prince offers a strikingly soulful alternative. His work broadens the definition of South Asian music on international stages, introspective, compositionally sophisticated, and spiritually resonant. Even within South Asian audiences, his sound stands apart, breaking stereotypes and redefining what representation can truly embody.
Just Prince grew up surrounded by the sounds of Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi music melodies shaped by poetry, longing, and devotional expression by people like Bade Gulam Ali Khan Sahab, Begum Akhtar, Gulam Ali Khan and Madhurani. These early influences stayed with him, even as he began discovering Western folk, blues, rock and grunge artists like Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, D’angelo, Sam Cook, and Otis Redding.
Over time, he discovered he wasn’t choosing between worlds- he was learning from them all. His musical identity became a meeting place, where Indian classical notations, Western soul and rock, and the rhythmic spirit of African traditions, inspired by artists like Fela Kuti and Ballake Sissoko, could coexist. Just Prince continues to grow, not just as a musician, but as a listener, deeply curious about traditional instruments, ancestral rhythms, and the ways music connects us across cultures.
Just Prince came to understand he would become an artist when songwriting became the way he processed moments, displacement, and identity. Writing in multiple languages felt natural, because his life has always existed in multiple cultural spaces. Music became the place where those spaces could coexist without compromise.
His work blends South Asian classical phrasing and raga inspired melodies with contemporary structures. Just Prince has been learning and practicing Indian Classical vocals for over a decade and has a very strong command in an array of western vocal styles. He is inspired by artists who honour tradition, storytellers who treat songwriting as both personal reflection and a beautiful preservation of a picture memory or a thought.
Some milestones Just Prince’s career include performing at major Canadian folk festivals - Wavelength Winterfest (Toronto, 2024), Place des Arts for Bloomfest (curated by Northern Lights Festival Boreal) (Sudbury, 2024), Stan Rogers Folk Festival (Halifax, 2024), Blue Skies Festival (Clarendon, 2024), Live from the Rock Folk Festival (Redrock, 2024), and Trout Forest Festival (Earfalls, 2024). He played several private showcases at Folk Alliance International (Montreal, 2025), showcased at WOMEX under Canadian Delegation (Manchester, UK, 2024), and was also awarded with the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award- presented by Ontario Arts Council at Folk Music Ontario Awards in 2023.
His 2026 album 'Ocean' marks a deeper exploration of multi-cultural storytelling and sonic expansion, following singles that introduced his rooted, reflective, and globally resonant sound. With the creation of this album, Just Prince has gained the understanding that his role as an artist is not just to perform songs, but to stay true to himself and carry this truly unique and multi-cultural sound into new spaces.
